Stef Advances to the State Track Meet

Well...she did it....Stef advances to the Wisconsin State Track & Field Meet! Yeah, we're all so proud of her...She didn't advance in the 100 m hurdles...she just missed that by 3 1/100ths of a second. She was disappointed. No, I wouldn't say disappointed. She was really mad at herself. At the end of the race she looked to see her competitor and took her eye off the goal and hence, lost by a nose....But it made her that good kind of mad that comes from deep down within your gut and she wasn't going to let it happen again. So, she put her head back on for the 300 m hurdles and finished a great race advancing herself to State. Now she can say she is one of the top 300m hurdlers in the state of Wisconsin. That's a pretty big honor.

Here's a picture of her taken at the Whitewater Regional meet held on Monday:

We all went to the meet...Scott, Jake and me! And, we had the privilege of having Stefanie's Uncle Paul (my brother) join us. He's here from California to shoot a wedding and mixed in family visits. It just so happened that the Sectional meet fell on his visit and he said he wouldn't miss it. So he braved the yucky weather and took lots of pictures of his niece and the rest of the Lakeside team (who, by the way, won the girl's team Sectional Title!!) It was great having him join us.

And, Stef had another set of spectators at the meet. Her boyfriend and his mom and dad and younger sister came as well. That meant a lot to Stefanie and then after the meet we joined them for a meal at Culver's. It was a great finish to a great day!!

These are times when I regret not living in Wisconsin. By the way, who took that photo?

Care to write about how she hurdles with both legs and how odd that is?

I believe that Mary explained it to me like this, Ruth -

When Mary was running track, she had one leg that was always her lead leg (kinda like outta the blocks). Runners tend to have one leg stronger than the other. Then if you do always have a lead leg, then you have to master the count so that you can always go with that.

Our lovely niece is a talented ice skater. She learned to use both legs. Mary told me that Stef can use either leg to go over the hurdle and that she's not preoccupied counting steps so that the same leg can always go over the hurdle.

I call it shear talent and athletic ability.

Congrats to our niece!!

She's a great competitor, good sport and truly a class act!!

Go for it, Sis!!
